Heading to Arizona’s Slide Rock State Park, then here is your quick guide to what you need to know. Don’t know what Slide Rock is, well it’s a natural water park, only a few miles from Sedona.
Slide Rock is Arizona’s Natural Water Park
Slide Rock has become one of Arizonas go-to swimming places when the temperature starts to rise. It was opened in October of 1987 to the public and has continued to grow in popularity with Arizonans and tourist. This section of Oak Creek had sandstone that is smooth and covered in algae, which allows for a slippery surface to slide on.

The rocks can be very slippery and the water can be very cold sometimes. Make sure to bring appropriate gear and check the Slide Rock State Park official website for any updates.

As you head to the park, don’t forget your water, water shoes, sunscreen, and a towel. The cold water makes for a refreshing dip when the temperatures are high. After riding down one of the chutes or jumping into the deeper parts, try relaxing on the red rock and let the sun warm you back up. Don’t forget to bring a snack to eat after you play around for a bit.
In addition, there are no lifeguards present, so caution should always be put forth when your interacting with nature. I myself almost slipped on the algae, which is present on many of the rocks, but like always, I had my wonderful wife to catch me. Don’t be deterred from trying out the natural slides here, as long as your careful and wear proper gear then you should be fine. For example, we took our 10 year old nephew here and he not only loved it, but had no issues with slipping or getting hurt.

November 1st – January 31st 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
February 1st – April 30th 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
May 1st – Labor Day 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Tuesday after Labor Day – October 31st 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Special Hours of Operation:
Thanksgiving 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Christmas Eve 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Christmas Day closed
Park Fee:
Individual/Bicycle: $5
Motorcycle: %50 of what current vehicle fee is
October 1st – February 28th $10 per vehicle
March 1st – May 24th $20 per vehicle
May 25th – Labor Day $20 for Mon – Thur & $30 for Fri – Sun as well as holidays
Tuesday after Labor Day – September 30th $20 per vehicle
*Per vehicle only includes 1-4 people
*Payment by card or exact cash

In the past I have worked with rescuing marine animals, like Horn Sharks to a juvenile Black Sea Bass from Power Plants to be rehabilitated and released. Another was hiking the hills of Griffith Park in Los Angeles, looking for the Western Grey Squirrel.
